Just in Time for Christmas! A Rockwell Tool Giveaway!

I am so excited about this giveaway!  Rockwell Tools is offering one of my lucky readers a Sonicrafter F50.  I tried it out recently when we helped a friend put in a wood floor in her 100+ year old house.
This tool is powerful!  It cut through everything we threw at it!   We had to cut out some old wood, some old tile and some parts of the floor that were under the sheetrock.  It took care of all of these things easily!

Here's the floor that was under a layer of carpet and subfloor.  It's 100+ years old and appeared to be made of fir.  We originally thought it could be lifted up, sanded, then put down on a new subfloor, but there were hundreds of nails throughout the boards and they splintered when trying to lift them.  Ok, onto Plan B--laying new subfloor on top of the fir, then laying a new wood floor.  Our first step was  making sure everything was even.

Between her two rooms, there was a threshold made of sandstone.  Over that was a layer of tile that needed to be removed.  Enter the Sonicrafter F50 and it was soon history!

The tool cuts up and down or flat.  It really does the job quickly!

This is where the old subfloor was uneven under the sheetrock.  We used the the tool to cut these edges off right at the edge of the sheetrock.  Viola!

Once we had all of the edges cleaned up, we were able to lay the new subfloor.
Stay tuned for the rest of the project!
So, onto the GIVEAWAY!
On Saturday, December 19, I will use Random Number Generator to pick the winner and they will win their own Sonicrafter F50!
Rules are pretty simple:
  • You must be a follower of my blog

  • Only one entry per person
Thanks for your visit!

A GREAT Anniversary Getaway and a GREAT STUFF Giveaway!

We recently went to the Dominican Republic to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.  What a great trip!  The people of the Dominican Republic are so friendly and hard working.  They were so thankful to have tourists come to their beautiful country.  We stayed at an adults only, all inclusive resort in Punta Cana.  From the moment we arrived at the resort, we LOVED IT!  That all-inclusive deal is sweet!  ALL the food and drinks are included.  Yes, we needed our stretchy pants by the time we left!

The ocean was warm and turquoise.  There was a slight breeze that felt great.

We had a swim out room.  We sat out there each day. What a neat way to cool off!

A pool with a swim up bar.  A very popular place!

A delicious dinner at one of the many restaurants.
Of course, we can't wait to go back again!

Now for the Giveaway!
The folks at GREAT STUFF™ have generously offered a Gift Pack of their products to one lucky winner.

We love GREAT STUFF™!  Since we live in a much cooler place than the Dominican Republic, we need to make sure all of the cold air stays out in the winter and in in the summer.

This products shuts leaks out of Windows & Doors
Proper air sealing can lower your energy bill.  The average U.S. home has gaps and cracks that run ½ mile long from end to end. GREAT STUFF™ Window & Door Insulating Foam Sealant makes light work of spraying insulating foam in the gaps around doors and windows. It expands quickly to block airflow and add warmth your whole family can feel.

This stuff works so well.  Here it's used at my friend's new house that he's building to cover the spaces between the ducts and plumbing gaps.   Be sure to always wear gloves when using these products.

The gaps around water and waste pipes leading to exterior walls can let in a lot of air. GREAT STUFF™ Big Gap Filler expands to take the shape of cracks and voids 1" or larger, forming an airtight, water-resistant seal that prevents drafts and keeps critters out.

So please leave a comment for the chance to win a Gift Pack of GREAT STUFF™ products!  I'll be picking a winner via Random Number Generator on Saturday, December 13, 2014.

My New Hunter Fan and a Room Refresh Giveaway!

Last weekend we changed out our old light fixture in our dining room to a ceiling fan.  The room has three windows, but none of them open.  More than once, I've looked across the table at my son  and he's sweating!  Yes, we definitely needed a change!

We decided on the Hunter Fan Company's Claymore 54" ceiling fan with the light kit.  We ordered it on a Friday and it was here before the following weekend.  It took less than an hour from start to finish to take the old fixture down and install the new fixture.

The new fan looks amazing!  And with multiple speeds, it can create a little airflow or can cool the room really well!  It's quiet too!  And it has turned my son into a more relaxed man at the dinner table!  No more boiling as he eats...  :)

The Hunter Fan Company is having a great giveaway.  Go to Hunter's Facebook Page and enter to win.  The winner will receive one Room Refresh including a Hunter ceiling fan and a custom paint job for the room of their choice!  They have a great selection of indoor and outdoor ceiling fans.  This contest runs through September 18, 2014, so get over to their page and enter!

My New Camera and a Giveaway!

For the past year or so, I've worked a ton of hours at work.  (You can probably tell since my blog posts are not as frequent anymore!)  Recently, I had to either use or lose vacation hours.  My company has an option to sell vacation time.  I sold a week, and instead of that money just going in the general fund of 'what did we spend that on?', I bought a nice camera.  I'd been thinking about getting one for quite some time, but was a little afraid of being a beginner with a big camera that I didn't know how to operate.  I ended up with a Canon EOS Rebel T3i.  It came with a couple of lenses, some accessories and a great manual.  I read through it and got started.  OMG!  Now I know what I'd been missing all those years!  Such clarity in my pictures that I'd never had before.

A beautiful hummingbird coming to eat.

This pesky wasp was really annoying the hummingbird!

I think it's almost time for this baby to learn to fly!

Right outside my front door one night.  We have the most incredible sunsets here!

I love taking pictures of my flowers too!

Now onto the GIVEAWAY!

The folks at Easy Canvas Prints gave me a 16x20 Canvas Print to create and review.  And they're giving one lucky reader a free 16x20 Canvas too!

Here's the picture I started with.  I went to their website, downloaded my picture, went through the options and I was done!  I received an email as soon as my print was on the way.  All of it was so easy!

I originally put it in this frame and hung it.  I loved it!!  (until....)

Until I had it made into a Canvas Print!  It is stunning!

I love that you have the option to get the print to continue on the sides.

How can you win an Easy Canvas Print?

  • You must be a follower of my blog
  • Leave a comment telling me what type of picture you'd make into an Easy Canvas Print  (one entry per person please)
  • And that's it!  I'll be picking a winner on Friday, August 29, 2014 using Random Number Generator

Thanks for your visit!  And Good Luck in the Giveaway!

Sucré King Cake Giveaway!

Have you ever tried a Sucré  King Cake?  Oh my goodness!  They are delicious!  I recently received one to try and was so delighted.  When it arrived, it looked glittery and festive.  It even came with Mardi Gras beads.  :)    I had never tried one before, so wasn't sure what to expect.  I took it to work so I could share it with a lot of people, and consequently, get lots of feedback.

King Cakes, sold each year from Kings' Day, January 6, to Mardi Gras Day – are a unique tradition in New Orleans, a city that embraces unique tradition.
It’s hard to speak of New Orleans without mentioning Mardi Gras and the Carnival season leading up to it. And every New Orleanian knows that you can’t truly experience Mardi Gras until you've savored a King Cake.
The king cake is enjoyed in many forms all over the world, but nothing compares to this authentic treat straight out of New Orleans. It’s a sweet, glazed cinnamon pastry designed in beautiful purple, green and gold tones – the official colors of Mardi Gras – best shared with friends and loved ones. Anyone who has spent any time in this great city will tell you, you just can’t get the real thing anywhere else.

New Orleanians love a good king cake, and will take every opportunity to partake – at parties, at the office, at parades, everywhere! Since they are only available for such a short period, these cakes are highly sought after during that time. Today, instead of looking for a bean, you’ll be searching for a small plastic baby trinket, which can be found under or in the kings cake.
If you find the baby, you’ll be crowned king – or queen – for the day. This not only ensures your fortune for a year, it also sometimes means you'll receive certain privileges. For example, if the cake is eaten at work, your coworkers might have to treat you to lunch.
In some traditions, being crowned king or queen also comes with responsibilities. It means it's your turn to buy the next cake!

I must say, this cake was delicious!  It's a light and buttery pastry with a sweet cream cheese filling.  There is cinnamon and sugar on top.  It was a huge hit at work.  People got quite a kick out of the 'baby' and beads.  One guy came back FOUR times for more cake!  He even asked if he could take the last two pieces home.

Do you want to enjoy your own authentic Mardi Gras celebration? Then enter here to win a delicious Sucré King Cake!

Joanne is the Winner of the  Sucré King Cake! Thank you to everyone who entered.

Closet Makeover with Only Hangers! And a Giveaway!

I recently helped my good friend with a closet makeover.  She now loves having a pretty, organized closet to work with as well as all that prettiness to look at each morning and night.  :)

She started with this.  It was ok.  It's a little closet and there are a lot of clothes and shoes that need to fit in it.

We started by emptying all of the hanging clothes.  After this picture was taken, we added a center bracket as the pole was drooping after many years of clothes hanging on it without a middle support.  Now we know it's secure.
The only change is that we got rid of some purses that were on the top shelf and changed out her modge podge of wire, plastic and yarn wrapped hangers to these new beauties from Only Hangers!  Oh my gosh they are well made!  They have smooth wood, are not too heavy, yet are extremely sturdy.  They have notches for hanging straps and a non-slip sleeve of vinyl over the bar for slacks.  So many great details in a hanger!

 (before)

(and after!)

Not only did she benefit from a new and beautiful way to hang her clothes, but you can too!
Only Hangers! has offered one of my readers $100 in hangers from their website!

The winner is Jessica.  Thank you to everyone who entered!
