The Last Gasp of Summer

I absolutely love summer weather, gardening, being outside, etc.  It's been in the high 80's here for several weeks now, but they are forecasting 46 degrees and snow in the mountains for tomorrow.  Can I just say NO?!    :)

Most of my perennials have come and gone for the season, so thank goodness for very late blooming Rose of Sharon (you start blooming in late September?  What's up with that?)  and my favorite annual of all--Cosmos!

The warm weather required some serious cooling off!  The screen is there so Max stays on his side and doesn't do any damage to the deeper part of the pond.  The fish love to swim right up to him while he's laying in there.

I'm sure going to miss the good weather!

 Thanks for coming by!

  1. Looks greaet, Pam! I really like your ground covers around the boulders. Did you buy the cosmos, or did you use seed?

  3. Pam, I am cracking up at your dog in the fishpond!!!! Love that pic, the net.. the fact that the fish swim up to him!

Cosmos are among my favorite. Rose of Sharon bloomed in mid August around here...

  4. I love your photos, the cosmos look great. They make a wonderful cut flower. Maybe you could savor them a while longer by bringing in a bouquet.
The dog seems to be enjoying himself. Labs do love water:)

  5. Your yard is so pretty! Love the photo of your dog in the pond! We cooled off for a little bit and I got to wear my new boots and jacket, but today it's going to be around 80. We are finally having our September weather (mid 70's) and should stay that way for at least 10 days!!! This is so welcome after a blazing hot summer.

  12. It's gone from monsoon season to cool here. Most of the flowers are gone and we're just trying to dry out. To see flowers and warmth is go great since we seem to have missed it this year.

    Even the pup is happy.

  13. Hi Pam, hope you're having a fabulous evening. It was another gorgeous day here, had to turn the air back on, the next few days are suppose to be warm. I can only imagine what the snow on the mountains must look like.. thank you for swinging in to see the birdbath full of pumpkins and gourds. hugs ~lynne~

  16. Love your waterfall with your cosmos! (My absolute favourite annual too.) Your water statuary is very handsome -- our dog Max will not set foot in water. How funny that the fish swim right up to your Max.

Our cosmos are still hanging in there and the fall asters have started to bloom. Keeping my fingers crossed that the heavy frosts stay away!

  17. Oh my gosh that dog is so funny!!! And that it's a regular routine makes it even more hilarious! Gotta love those pet quirks. :)

Your waterfall with cosmos is to die for! I want one next year. :)

  18. Love the dog in the pond! And that you have a system to make it work! We used to have a pond, and my dog would always 'go fishing'. He never caught one, but we ended up filling in the pond because of many, many replaced liners due to his antics! I miss those days. :)
