I didn't take pictures of the mess from planing down all of the wood, but let's just say our trash was very full and very dusty for two weeks!
They are coming together nicely!
He put cork plugs in all of the screw holes. 80 holes per chair!
The piece that's missing is so he can reach the screw holes in the back of the chair. He assures me that he will be attaching that piece before he is done. :)
The corks have been sanded down and the final piece has been attached.
Done! I am so happy!
(I do realize that a picture of this chair outside in the sun would be soooo much better, but since it's still snowing and yucky here, that picture will have to wait... )
Amazingly enough, these beauties ended up costing less than the cheap-o, don't-get-them-wet ones!
I guarantee we will enjoy these much more and for a lot longer. I love when I get homemade gifts and I will certainly treasure these!
Thanks for coming by! I appreciate your visits and comments.
Pam

ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed! I can't believe you all BUILT you own chairs! They look great! So glad you stopped by, I love your house!
ReplyDeleteWhat a talented husband you have. The chairs look wonderful. I love that you stained them rather than painting them.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has an engineering degree and while sometimes his solutions freak me out (like screwing a leaning bookcase into the wall!), he is also very clever. Thanks for you kind comments on my blog. I look forward to getting to know you. If you love gardening, check some of the older posts that show several years of garden show gardens. Dianne
Your hubby did a wonderful job building the chairs. I love Adirondacks - such a classic style. I hope you enjoy them for years to come. Pamela
ReplyDeletePam your hubby did an amazing job on those chairs!! You'll be enjoying them for a long time! Martina
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice hubby and such a good job at putting your chairs together, Pam. With 80 holes to a chair, he certainly has patience!
ReplyDeleteHigh 5 to hubby....love them. I bought the ones you almost bought at HD and you will be much better off with the ones you made!!!! Tell hubby he did a great job on all those pictures and FYI, that is a very clean garage....mine needs a visit from the declutter fairy!
ReplyDeleteThese look fantastic! I love how you kept the natural wood showing through. Really nice!
ReplyDeleteThese look wonderful, fantastic work!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the chair! It looks too complicated to me...
ReplyDeleteGo hubby!... Honestly this is why I ended up with some very high end resin chairs ( not the cheapies).. the resin has held up very well but the warmth of your wood cannot be beat that is for sure!
ReplyDeleteI mean really.. what next.. umbrellas that you can't get wet??

ReplyDeleteI'm sure it won't be long before you'll be breaking them in :)
I have long wanted some Adirondack chairs myself, and these are so beautiful! I think your husband could have a second career here!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
He did a wonderful job. I have had some adirondaks outside for years that my BIL made for me. They are my favorite seat. I'd probably put them in my living rom if I could.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a talented husband you have! Those are a million times better than any store bought chair!
ReplyDeleteYour chair is lovely! You will enjoy for years to come and you will enjoy the fact that you and your hubby made them!

ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
Terri @ Creative Eyedias.
Wow! These are fabulous. You guys put a lot of work into them and it really shows. Love it!
ReplyDeleteNice looking chairs! (80!?!) I love Adirondacks too. We had several at our last home and after they started looking worn from the weather, we coated with Thompsons Water Sealer. After several years of that, I painted one with leftover shutter paint. I still have them - 15 years later - although the last 5 they have been under cover.

They are beautiful! Hubby did a fantastic job! And you were absolutely correct to return the other ones. I bought something similar years ago -- they lasted one season. Last year, we bought 2 chairs and a bench from a local craftsman and they are built to last!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. Hope to see you at My Dream Canvas!
ReplyDeleteThe chairs are great! He did a wonderful job!! I am glad the clerk told you about the rain...that would have been a bummer, for sure!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - he has some talent! I need to borrow your hubby and his power tools for some woodworking projects at Heardmont! ;)
ReplyDeleteThey look awesome.
Hi Pam! How wonderful that you have a husband that can build things. They look wonderful and should last for many years. Thanks for sharing this project at my Open House party.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
They look great! Things certainly are not made very good these days, that's why I hardly ever buy new furniture. I would rather go to an estate sale and find solid wood furniture rather than the "cardboard "junk that is out there now.
ReplyDeleteSeriously wow, way to go! These are so expensive in stores, I bet you are happy, they are lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteI adore adiraondack chairs! You did an awesome job on making your own!!! Way to go! Makes me want to replace my 2 plastic cheap-o versions with the real deal!
ReplyDeleteThese turned out so nice! Kuddos to your hubby for a job well done! My dad made me some 15 years ago and it's now time to replace them and I leave them outside all year long!!! I've even repainted them several times. I hope you enjoy yours for as long as I have mine. What kind of wood did you use?
ReplyDeleteWow, your hubby did a great job! Love your chairs!!! Can't wait to see the pictures of them in their new location!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
I am just trying to wrap my mind around a hubby that can do something so wonderful! Does he have a brother? They are beautiful chairs- I know you'll love them for years to come!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful chairs Pam! Your husband is so talented! Maybe my husband could spend the day with your husband and learn a few things!!!!
ReplyDeletePam,
ReplyDeleteWOW! I love your new adirondack chairs!!! Your dh is a keeper!
Dee
