I'm sure everyone has seen the little pots of mums that are available in just about every grocery store and home improvement store in the summer and fall. They are usually about $2.50 here, but sometimes are on sale for 99 cents. I love to use them in my house for a pop of color, but they only last a couple of weeks before looking tired. Instead of throwing them out, I just plant them out in my yard. A few
months later when everything else has died, they are looking great (and a whole lot bigger)!
I took these pictures last Saturday (late October) after my Cosmos and tomatoes bit the dust from a recent freeze.
(Please excuse the mesh--our dog loves to go back there and dig.)
So the next time you have those little mums that look tired inside, just find a spot out in your yard. You'll be enjoying the blooms for years to come.
Thanks for your visit!
Pam
I will have to try this. I keep meaning to actually plant Mums and never do. I can't hardly keep them in life in pots! :)
ReplyDeleteI am sure you are enjoying the burst of color!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Did they ever take off. The mums are so beautiful and lush looking.

ReplyDeleteYour mums are such a gorgeous color! I bought a bunch on clearance that I need to plant. Hopefully they'll do as well as yours. Did you add any fertilizer to them?
ReplyDeleteLove your pretty flowers! They really did take off. I planted some year before last and had forgotten about it. Went outside today and there were some little yellow mums popping up. A pleasant surprise!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea they would come back like this!
ReplyDeleteMums are really beautiful in ur garden.I will try this.wonderful post...
ReplyDeleteI love flowers and it's my frustration to raise a flower garden. Hopefully someday I'll have one for I have already been growing vegetable garden at home, too. It's just that flowers really need extra care than raised garden beds.
