Room to Move in the Laundry Room

Our laundry room has more going on in it than just about any other room in the house!  Of course, laundry is done.  The dog and cat are both fed in here.  We have cleaning supplies, household supplies, planting supplies, etc. in here. It's a decent size room, but with all that's going on in there, it gets crowded!  So the other day my husband removed the door.  It was the best move ever!  We didn't ever close the door because the dog's stuff was on the floor.  I was afraid I'd conk myself in the head when I was reaching for the dog's food or his leash.  Even though we only gained a couple of square feet, it is heavenly!  I can now get past the dog when he's eating and  I can move in there without bumping into something!

We bought our washer and dryer separately, so that's why they don't 'match', which is fine with us.  It's nice having the washer on the pedestal, because then I don't have to bend over to get the clothes out.  I didn't get the pedestal for the dryer because I like having a spot to fold clothes.

I realize this is a really small looking change, but it's a huge improvement for an area that I'm in so many times a day.  If we ever want the door back on, it's as easy as putting it back up.

Thanks for visting!

Pam

  1. It makes so much sense because it works for you and your family! Your laundry room sounds like mine. Our dogs eat in there and sometimes they hangout in there when company comes over! I bet you love having a sink in there too!

  4. If we have to do laundry, and all of us do, it may as well be in a nice place like this.

  10. Hello,

I love the slate floors and having a sink in the laundry room. We recently renovated our basement which included the laundry room. Love having space to fold laundry and a sink. It makes laundry more enjoyable to do.
Thank you for sharing. Take care,
    Claudia

  17. Crazy how much more open a space feels just by removing a door, isn't it? We did the same thing between our bath and closet and haven't looked back since! Who ever closes those doors anyway, right? :)
Love your laundry room - it's beautiful!

  18. You've nailed it! Something like a door removal can make such a difference. We enlarged our laundry closet door and it's a brand new world. (Must be a laundry thing). Now enjoy it! Jane

  19. Isn't it amazing how much time we do spend in our laundry rooms? We did a redo on ours last year and just adding cabinets instead of shelves made me happy. I have to leave the door on mine as it opens into the open space that is our kitchen/living/dining room and the washer and dryer make too much noise when we are watching tv.

Hope your week is starting well!

  21. Hi Pam,
It's just these kinds of changes that make the biggest impact sometimes! What a great idea! Love your laundry room...what a great space! Can you believe I am still using the first washing machine I ever bought...it's over 30 years old and still going! :) Maybe I should call GE and tell them...LOL
